Youth Girls U15 Div 1: Drummoyne Power v Manly Bombers

St Luke’s Oval, Concord
Round One, Sunday 2 April 2017

It was a windy day at St Lukes Oval in Concord for the Drummoyne Power U15 Girls first game of the season against the Manly Bombers. Welcome to all the new girls –  two players new to the Drummoyne club and seven players new to AFL.

The first quarter was a midfield tussle, with Power kicking against the breeze. Gabby opened her account scoring the first goal with Narahne and Kyza getting heaps of run and carry.  Tilly and Hazel made some solid tackles.  Afeni scored a great goal and shared intense rucking duties with Lucinda. Tharney and Geena were reliable in defence. There were many long kicks to inside the 50 and Imogen took a great mark in front of goal. Coach Susie Ahoy praised all the girls for such a positive start.

The wind was with the Power in the second half. Tilly scored from a free kick. Kyza, Narahne and Jaydee were quick in the midfield and Afeni, Gabby and Jesslyn took some great marks. Roxy proved to be a bit of a natural in her first game, brave in offence. Narahne got a quick goal after Gabby cleared from the centre. At half time with Drummoyne up by a couple of goals, the advice from Susie was to take time with the kicks.

The third quarter was a display of determined defence by Power. The ball was stuck in front of the Bombers goal and difficult to clear, but Power held on. The final quarter sealed the game. There were some long clearances from the back by Cheneale, Lara and Gabby, and the Drummoyne Power Girls kept the Bombers scoreless in the last quarter to win 46 to 23.

A great start to the season.
