Under 7 Drummoyne Powers VS Maroubra Saints
Round 11
The week leading up to Saturday’s showdown, between Drummoyne Power and Maroubra Saints, saw Sydney experience a deluge and wild weather. It was therefore expected that the grounds at Heffron Park would be slightly sludgy to play on and the spectators would be in for an exciting game: And most definitely it was a ripper of a game!!
With a few team mates missing, Drummoyne was split into two teams as opposed to the usual three. Coach Carolyn prepped the boys with some last minute tactics. The field was unexpectedly larger than what our boys were familiar with, but they were able to quickly adapt and relied heavily on team plays.
The goals were aplenty for both sides. Our team was superb in defence and aggressive in attack.
Highlights for each player:
Charlotte (50) : Instrumental in blocking while playing in the backs. She prevented 2 goals, forcing them to behinds.
Dylan (51): Strong in the centre, winning every ball contest, allowing his other centres to scoop up the ball.
Fletcher (62): Magnificent in team play. Quick hand passes to his forwards allowed them plenty of goals.
Hugh (80): Supported his forwards and was selfless, always passing or kicking to someone in a better position for a chance to score a goal.
Isaac M (25): Tough around the ruck and strong, winning most of his one to one contests.
Jack CA (37): Took a sensational mark, and disposed of it so quickly to his forward for a Drummoyne goal.
Jeremy (48): Speed and agility allowed him to outrun his opponents and kick downfield to his forwards, resulting in 4 goals.
Ned (95): Nimble and accurate making him the most prolific goal scorer of the game.
Sophia (58): Dominant in the centre, forcing the ball into our territory.
Baxter (42): Kicked a powerful 20 metre kick resulting in a goal and clearing the fence.
Bryce (90): Not surprisingly, was Man of the Match for his determination and stamina with every ball contest. He was accurate in disposing of the ball at every opportunity to another team player.
Isaac O (32): Brilliant in the first quarter in the forward position. Read the game well and kicked with precision for 2 goals.
A special thank you to coach Carolyn for her guidance and encouraging words throughout the game.
