Under 7 Black: Round 2 Match Report

U7 Black v Concord Giants: Round 2, April 25, 2015

Taplin Oval, Drummoyne

Coach’s Award:  Ben G.

After a week of RAIN, RAIN and more RAIN… The sun was out and shining bright. The oval had drained well and it was a perfect afternoon for footy. After many spent the morning remembering our ANZACs, our kick off was at 1pm. The afternoon start didn’t seem to upset the boys with desperation to get out on the field at an all time high.

Special Mention

To start a special mention to Ben G., who volunteered to help out the Giants with numbers and played for them in the game. Despite playing for the opposition, Ben played out of his skin and was clearly one of the best players on the field for both teams on the day. After consultation, it was decided that Ben deserved the Coach’s award for the match.

The Match

The match started with great enthusiasm from both teams. Oscar had some great marks early, always working hard in the centre and then strong in defence in the final third. Henry worked hard all game always chasing the ball, solid in defence in the first third and got a great goal in the final third. Daniel as always running, great early touches and solid shots on goal. Took the mark of the game late after returning from a head clash that had required attention on the sideline.

Riley managed to take the opportunity for the first shot on goal during the game, though it narrowly drifted past the post. Great combinations with Henry, Zac and Daniel, combining with a string of kicks and passes commenced multiple attacking opportunities for their team. Peter got most of his opportunity on  the ball in the final third when he stopped multiple raises on goal from the giants on many occasions he was marking and knocking down certain goals. Callum was a total team player as always, he was always looking up and finding team mates in space. He was strong in defence where much of the action was required in this game.

Zachary was always running and defending tirelessly, arms held high and in the face of the attacking Giants players. He managed to stop many goal attempts with his superb defence. Brody started with some great marks, and progressing the ball into attacking positions. He had many goal assists late in the game by getting the ball to Finn. Finn finished the game with two great long goals, and at multiple smothers early in the first third to prevent the giants from scoring.

Concord where very strong particularly in attack, with many long bombs into the goal third. Power defence was sound. With great teamwork, looking for the man in space, while always contesting the ball on the ground resulting in a great game not only for the boys but also for the spectators.

Thanks to Paul Gallo for filling in as coach for the weekend.
