It was a nail-biting finish when Drummoyne Power Under 15 girls travelled to Balgowlah Oval to play Manly in Round 10.

The wind was strong from the commencement of the game through to the end and should have favoured the team kicking with the wind each quarter.

It was a game of two halves for Drummoyne who were slow to start in the first two quarters and then increased their intensity and running in the second half.

The first quarter saw Manly kicking with the wind and taking advantage of this by scoring two goals to Drummoyne’s no score. It was a difficult quarter with the ball staying in the back line for most of the quarter and only reaching the forward line on one occasion.

The second quarter saw Drummoyne kicking with the wind and Gabby scoring Drummoyne’s first goal – a banana kick from the forward pocket. Manly extended their lead in this quarter by kicking two goals against the wind.

At half time Manly were well in front – by approx. 20 points.

The third quarter saw a turnaround in Drummoyne’s performance with greater intensity and three goals – all against the wind. Two goals were kicked by Gabby and one by Afeni.

The fourth quarter saw everyone lift their game with greater effort in attacking the ball, running with the ball and tackling. It was a good team effort in the end seeing Drummoyne scrape home by two points.
