U9 Black vs East Sydney Bulldogs Red

Round 3, Saturday 28 April 2018

Drummoyne Oval

Round 3 presented the U9 Blacks with a huge challenge in the form of the Bulldogs. The boys were really competitive in the first and second quarter, with some strong contests and nice touches, but the Bulldogs played some very nice footy to kick a few goals and go ahead. Dimitri was typically elusive through the middle of the field, Arnaud worked hard to win the ball and tackled hard, Luke was rewarded for a good chase with a holding the ball free kick, Thomas was really strong with all of his tackles and Hamish chased hard in a busy defensive effort.

But all the U9 Black parents were hugely proud of the boys who showed a lot of heart and continued to try their guts out to dominate the last two quarters. Lachlan drove the team forward with some strong bursts out of the middle, Austin D kicked a cracking goal, Alexander G saved a certain goal on the line, Alex V rocked a few boys with huge tackles, Austen P gave the boys a lot of direction from the back with some huge kicks and Nathen was really brave, constantly competing for the ball.

The game was a ripper and, even better, the boys learnt a lot and responded to a strong contest in the best way possible – by working even harder as a team and never giving up. Akira was strong all game, enjoying some great marks, making some strong tackles and kicking a goal, and Talan came to life in the last quarter to dominate through the middle, making strong tackles and great runs down field. Well done U9 Black – wonderful to watch.

And congrats to Austin D and Akira, celebrating their 50th game this week!

(Thanks Jess V for the terrific photos.)
