U9 Black Round One

U9 Black bring it home – Round 1

The big day finally arrived, Round 1 of the 2016 season.

Our newly minted U9s took to the field against the Giants at Goddard Oval on a rather hot and sweaty morning. We saw a good fight-back today from the team. What started as a tough morning at the office was turned around and our Power players won the second half with a number of goals from Josh O and Moses.

Quarter One was all about defence for the Power, and we saw some challenging moments in and around the goal square. Ruck work in this quarter was good, with some good tap outs by Keshaan. Marlowe put in an excellent effort in defence, taking some heavy hits from the opposition. Matthew’s quick hands shone, gaining several disposals to get the ball out of the danger zone on multiple occasions.

Finn’s sidesteps in quarter two were a delight to watch, Finn also took some heavy hits though gained a couple of free kicks from a series of “knees to the back” tackles. Lachlan narrowly missed having a goal awarded, the ball being marked on the boundary between the sticks. It gave the team some great momentum though, as just a couple of minutes later the ball was straight back in our forward zone and Josh O bagged the first goal of his AFL debut.

We made our mark early in the third quarter in a beautiful display of team work with Leon disposing the ball accurately to Moses who snapped kicked a very impressive goal. Rafferty was passionate in defence in this quarter and made solid contributions up and down the flank. Leon was effective in the midfield in this term and used his height to win ball ups and get the ball moving into our attacking zone.

Our confidence increasing with every quarter we stamped our authority on the fourth quarter and really started attacking the ball. Josh H shone forcing stoppages several times, many of which resulted in Power winning the ball. Oliver read the game well and was in the mix at every stage. Yam executed a monster of a tackle and that turnover lead to another Power goal. Finley recorded the highest number of possessions for the game, played his best work in defensive line showing a never-say-die attitude.

Well done team, we hope you enjoyed your Junior Footy debut and the first chance to tackle this year!
