U8 Teal vs Easts, Round 4

Drummoyne Power U8 Teal v Easts

Round 4, Picken Oval

In round 4, Drummoyne U8 Teal met Easts at Picken Oval. The grounds were damp from a continual drizzle but conditions were still good for footy. After several strong weeks of football from Teal, this match was going to be the first to really test the side.

Easts as expected came out strongly in the first quarter, but their initial intensity even took our boys by surprise. A few quick goals from the opposition and our defence was under pressure. However, good team work from the back with Robbo, Caleb and Matt allowed us to get the ball back up our attacking end. A great mark to Lucas followed by a goal to William helped us get reset for the 2nd quarter. Coach Matt, at our first break, asked the boys to reflect on where they could improve and the message was that our team had to put pressure on our opposition with marking of our opponents.

The second quarter started out better for Teal. Two quick goals from Ben and LT put us back in contention. Marcus was instrumental in slowing down points with Easts returning the pressure on to our defensive end. Matt gave it his all in the midfield to feed ball in to the forward line. At the final break, Coach Matt had one last request – more run, more hunger and more sweat. All boys stood up in the final turn as the game became a little bit more physical. Gus, Ben LT and Conor were busy in defence with some great hand passing and marking. Caleb kicked a terrific last goal from 20 metres out and Will and Lucas kept up the pressure around the ruck.

Congratulations to Angus who received the MVP for best on field performance.
