U7 White v Maroubra Saints

Drummoyne Oval, Round 5

What a tough morning to play AFL for these 10 little warriors; the start of a long winter! I lost feeling in my left hand in the final quarter trying to write this report. Both teams left everything out on the pitch with “victory” for Drummoyne coming in the last two minutes of play (not that we score).

The first quarter was a very tight affair with an opening goal for Drummoyne in the first minute by Isaac O who also scored in the final quarter to keep the game alive for the Power. The Saints also scored in the first quarter but scoring was low due a vicious breeze and a biting cold rain shower. Great kicking from the centre by Baxter on three occasions kept our forwards warm with Jeremy catching, running, and making space constantly generally being a nuisance to the opposition. Fine kicking from Phoenix and Liam  with Zac and Lachlan busy breaking down the attacking forward play kept the play flowing. Nothing separated the teams at the end of this quarter.

The second quarter saw the Saints play with a strong breeze and they took full advantage running in some fine goals leaving Drummoyne playing catch up for the final quarter. More fine kicking from Baxter from the Centre kept our forwards in with a chance but the strong breeze in their face had other ideas. Phoenix and Jeremy stood tall with their clearances and fine kicking ably supported by Oscar M, Zac and Lachlan. Benjamin and Bryce fought hard winning back the ball, scrambling and covering a lot of ground assisting their team mates keeping the score at a very manageable target.

What a great last quarter with fine scoring from Jeremy and Phoenix turning the tide  in favour of Drummoyne Power ably assisted by the strong breeze. Great opportunistic play from Baxter with fine kicking from Isaac O, Zac, Oscar M and Phoenix. Lachlan positioned himself well regularly winning a lot of the breaking ball with Liam making himself available at every opportunity. Fine team work and a never say die attitude helped the Power over the line putting the smiles on early for all the mothers who braved the elements this morning.

Congrats to Phoenix on getting this weeks certificate. Well deserved.
