U11 Teal: Round 5

Drummoyne Power Teal U11 vs Newtown Swans

Round 5, Saturday 6 May

Alan Davidson Oval

It was a glorious Sydney Saturday afternoon at Alan Davidson Oval for the U11-1 match between Drummoyne Power Teal and Newtown Swans. Everyone was ready for another exciting encounter between these two teams!

The first quarter was a tight and tough contest with some wonderful team work between Luke H and Harry, which led to the first goal of the day. Some excellent defensive work from Joseph, Hugo and Zach N meant that the Swans kicked a number of behinds before scoring their first goal. Some awesome midfield running from Oscar started a play where Milo skillfully kicked the ball to Nick who marked it well then went on to kick a goal. At the end of Q1 Swans were in the lead by one point.

In Q2 Drummoyne took their teamwork to another level and there were some amazing passages of play involving many of the team including Zachary I, Max, Lucas J, Lucas B and Oscar which resulted in a goal by James, his first of three for the quarter. Harry and Nick also kicked a goal each this quarter. Excellent defence by Xabi and Hugo kept the Swans to two behinds for the quarter so at half time Drummoyne were in front 50 – 17.

Q3 was another tight contest with few points being scored. There were some hard tackles by Joseph and Hugo, some wonderful running by Oscar and Luke H, terrific centre work by Lucas B and excellent marks taken by Oliver and Zachary N. A memorable passage of team play involving Oscar, Nick and Sean led to a well deserved goal – the only one for the quarter. Drummoyne had increase the lead, with a quarter left to play.

Lots of wonderful team work and great skills were on display in Q4 and three goals, one each to Max, Xabi and Zachary N was a super way to finish the day. It was a solid win to Drummoyne and a fantastic team effort with everyone supporting each other to get the job done.

Many thanks to coach Brad and all of the volunteers who supported the team throughout the match.
