U11 Black vs Easts Red

Trumper Oval, Paddington

Round One, Saturday 1 April 2017

A new year, new team, new jerseys. A quick introduction from coach John and we were into it. Easts came out hard and the first quarter was spent mostly in our defensive area. Despite constant pressure, there was solid defence from Power’s backline defenders, and some great connections from the backs to mids to ease the pressure and create a few opportunities. Power scoreless in the first quarter, but chins still up and a long way to go.

Instructions at the break – man up, tackle and run, run, run. Simple clear advice – put the pressure on and the game will swing our way. Indeed it did. Man on man the pressure on the Bulldogs increased and Power started scoring goals.

In quarters 3 and 4, Power’s defence improved, the forwards were in the action and the game opened up, with Power matching the Bulldogs in all respects – and scoring a few goals and behinds.

The final score didn’t go our way, but the Power didn’t stop, stop, stop! The boys showed they’ve got the Power to win, never give in, and the flag is theirs for the taking.

All of the boys played really well in game 1 of the season, and the teamwork will only improve over the coming weeks.

Some special mentions:

  • Mikhail, scoring a goal in his first ever AFL game – Well done!
  • Finn, Marlowe and Leon – big contributions to the game and thank you for playing up after your own under 10 match.
  • Joe and John – today’s manager and coach, got our kids off to a very positive and enjoyable start this season.

Parents – a gentle reminder that we still need a permanent Manager and Coach for under 11 Black. The boys showed today how rewarding these roles will be this year.
