U14 Youth Girls

YG U14 vs Maroubra Saints, Round 5

YG U14 v Maroubra

Round 5, Drummoyne Oval

With almost a full team this week the girls were ready to play.

The first quarter started strong with our forward pack fighting hard for the ball and the centres having to work hard to stop an attacking Maroubra from scoring.  Gabriella, Annie, Maddie M and Charli all stayed strong in defence – with a big mark by Gabriella to spoil a goal from Maroubra.  Charli was all over the opposition with a massive smother and tackle to turn the ball over.  Showing her versatility as a player, Gabriella also scored the first goal of the game.

In the second quarter, the centres work hard to shepherd and move the ball down to the forwards, with Geena, Charli, Zara, Maia, Cheneale, Kyamara and Natalie digging in to chase every ball and win some tackles.  Annie and Kyamara made a few huge tackles to get the ball back to the forwards for Emily and Jasmine, and two big goals by Maia and Nurahne and 5 behinds scored in the 2nd.

The 3rd quarter we were back again with Rihanna and Afeni dominating with some tough marks and big sprints toward the forwards, with Afeni taking a mark to stop another opposition goal.

Laura, Sarah, Zara and Kaia showed great teamwork and drove through a strong Maroubra defence with one goal scored by Laura.

The 4th quarter we were showing some tiredness, but fought on for an amazing 5 goals, scored under intense Maroubra pressure, by Jasmine 2, Rihanna 2, and Afeni.

A great victory to the Drummoyne Power girls, congratulations!

Thank you to all the girls who played for the opposition throughout the game – great sportsmanship!!

Goal kickers: Rianna 2, Nurahne, Laura, Jasmine 2, Gabriella, Afeni, Maia

Thanks to all of the parents who helped out today!! And a shout-out to all the mums on Mother’s Day!

YG U14 vs Mosman, Round 4

 YG U14 v Mosman

Round 4, Middle Head Oval

Well, a tough day at the office for our girls.
An Amazonian Mosman team may have intimidated our much younger and less experienced Drummoyne girls… and the final score reflected a good attacking side, with Mosman winning by a significant margin. But score shmore.
OUR GIRLS DID NOT GIVE UP !!! Talk about tenacious …
Annie, as the final line of defence, had some strong saves and marks on the goal line getting the ball quickly out wide and away. Kaia had an unbelievable energy in defence never giving up in wanting that ball just that bit more than the Mosman girls, and Cheneale had some great tackles to relive over dinner that night.
Nurahne, as well, was instrumental in getting the ball out of the way taking a couple of great marks getting us out of trouble. Zara had a touch on the ball helping build her confidence and we were grateful that Natalie swapped the netball for the Sherrin to use some of her experience on the day with some good defence keeping her player out of the game.
Despite feeling a bit under the weather, Maddy M – as always – was a stalwart and – as always – gave 120%.
Rianna, our smallest player, was a standout defending a Mosman girl almost twice her size … unbelievable … no fear.
Laura was in the same boat for most of the game getting her hands on the ball sometimes. She was just that bit faster – being a bit closer to the ground had some advantage !!
Afeni had a passionate game, wanting the ball desperately and running herself just about into the ground – Afeni and Kyamara had strong attacking games helping the ball down our end of the pitch when they could and as always together with Gabriella, being the strong foundations for the whole team.
Maddie H as well used her experience, height (!!) and skill and was a standout winning the rucks on several occasions taking some great marks and getting the ball back to the right team!!
The attacking team did not get a whole lot of action – Charli had some great runs down the pitch to make some ground. Sarah was fundamental in assisting with the points we did score – Jasmine had the honour of scoring our 1 six pointer in the final quarter – such a great way to finish.
Coach Gabby was awesome – encouraging the team throughout the game, helping them become their absolute best in the last quarter.
Great job, girls !!

Round 3

Weather apps were compulsively checked all arvo but the massive storm never eventuated, so the girls got their first taste of Friday night footy for the season. And what a tough first game under lights it was!

Drummoyne started well with some excellent tackling, some great pressure from Kaia and attacking play from Rianna. But the Tigers hit the scoreboard in the first quarter and relentlessly peppered away at the goals for the remainder of the night.

The Tigers continued on in the second quarter, the ball not making it past the centre circle into the Drummoyne half all quarter. All of the girls down in the defensive end kept at it though with continued pressure and harassing. Nice work #64 for an attacking run.

In the third quarter Rianna continued with her solid attacking play, Kaia’s defensive pressure was notable and Chloe made an excellent tackle.

In the final quarter the Tigers continued to pummel the goals, but our girls really persisted meaning more behinds than goals scored, with a great kick in from Maia, some good running from Geena, and excellent mark from Chloe and great defensive pressure from Madeline. Jasmine darted around making the play, Zara, Natalie and Madison worked hard all game. But tonight wasn’t our night, and the scoreboard showed that.

Some of the Tigers looked about twice the size of ours, but well done all of you for keeping at it. Thanks to Andrew for stepping up to coach the girls tonight and to Genevieve as manager. Honourable mentions from the coach for Chloe, Rianna, Madeleine, Jasmine and Kaia. Better luck next game, girls!

Call for Coaches and Managers

We need to lock in Coaches, Assistant Coaches and Managers for 2016

Drummoyne Power is a club run by parent volunteers and our coaches and managers are at the core of this.

While we’re doing well locking in coaches and managers in some age groups, we still need you! Our greatest need, this stage, is for u5s and our Junior teams (u9-u11).

We have over 30 teams ready to hit the field in 2016 across Power and the Canada Bay Cannons.  That’s over 60 coaches and managers at a minimum!

It would be great if we can also nominate as many assistant coaches and managers as possible, so please put your hand up even if you are only available or comfortable in an assistant role.

Auskick u5-u8

Contact our Auskick Coordinator Megan Chandra (if you haven’t already) about how to get involved in u5-u8 for season 2016.

Juniors u9-u11

If you were coach, assistant coach or manager last year for u8-u10 and would like to continue – GREAT! Email our Registrar Simon Osborne, Vice-President Milan Serovich or Manager Coordinator Damon Jones and let one of them know you’re up for another great season of footy.

If you are new to coaching and managing and can help out, download and return the Expression of Interest form (EOI Form Drummoyne Power) and return it to Registrar Simon Osborne.

Canada Bay Cannons u12-u17

Download the Canada Bay Cannons Volunteer Expression of Interest Form if you’re available to help out in any of our Cannons teams u12-u17 and return to Cannons Board Member Dean Lee.

Youth Girls

Use the Expression of Interest form for Drummoyne Power (EOI Form Drummoyne Power) and return to President Jeremy Stanwix.

More on how to get involved at a Club level here.
