Cannons U14/3: Round 4 Match Report

Canada Bay Cannons U14/3 vs Willoughby/Mosman U14/3

Round 4, Drummoyne Oval

The match was quite an arm wrestle with both sets of backs able to repel many attacking efforts, with much of the game played between the respective half backs.

The Cannons posted a quick fire first goal but could not take advantage of a couple of goal breeze favouring the southern end and trailed at quarter time. Willoughby/Mosman wasted no time in adding to their quarter time lead. However, many attacking raids were turned back and some sustained pressure by Cannons resulted in a well earned goal and generated some self belief.

The breeze dropped away in the early part of 3rd quarter and the Cannons worked hard to take a slender lead with some back to back goals and several rushed behinds. The breeze returned and the Cannons held a slender 7 point lead into the last quarter.

Willoughby threw everything into the game and the Cannons backs absorbed many attacking waves and sent the ball back to whence it came. The Cannons were very miserly and conceded only several behinds, including a poster and looked set for victory.

However, our flag was lowered when the Willoughby/Mosman boys gathered the only a loose ball of the quarter and goaled with 40 seconds on the clock. Flag lowered but heads held high. Congratulations Willoughby/Mosman and bravo Cannons. Final score 34 points to 30.
