The balmy winter weather continued as we headed to Trumper Park to take on Easts in the final game of the home and away season 2018.
Highlights package:
Q1
After an early conceded behind, Jack Cameron cleared the ball to Fletcher who moved the ball up the middle to the safe hands of Charlotte and Zoe
Jack clears the ball, this time up the middle to Ned takes advantage and kicks to an open goal (6 points!)
Ned centres the ball to Jeremy, clearing the ball to Isaac M who hand passes nicely to the reliable goal scorer, Ned, who now has his 2nd goal of the quarter
Our defence does its best to divert an attack on goal forcing Easts to kick a left footed goal from the left forward pocket
Isaac M taps it onto Fletcher who moves the ball forward to Ned, who unselfishly hand passes to Jeremy, who is awarded a free kick – almost a goal as the kick is stopped on the line (we really need to get video replays for the Under 7s next season!)
Isaac M again again advances the ball from defence, offloading to Jeremy who strides out and takes a shot to score another major.
A courageous block (worthy of a man of the match effort) by Ned, sustaining a closed head injury; shortly after Ned marks the ball, proving his resilience, then kicks massively for a clean chest mark by Jack.
It’s a game of “forcings back” with Ned marking and then kicking upfield to Jack and a short time later the same sequence is repeated.
Isaac M succeeds in hand balling a massive ice cream scoop hand pass upfield to set up a play.
Wonderful goal defending by Tyler to keep Easts modest in the scoring department.
Just before the siren and symbolic of the improvement across the team over the season, a power play with uninterrupted possession from Jeremy kicking from the goal square laterally to the right, accepted by Ned who hugs the side line running up towards centre field and centring the ball slightly with a kick to Jack, who is assisted by Charlotte in gathering the ball so that he can pass to Fletcher who puts it through the big sticks for a wonderful team goal.
Q2
The dominance of Drummoyne continued.
A couple of marks by Jeremy to start the quarter off, followed by a big downfield boot of the ball to Jack, who (not for the last time today) curves the ball off the outside of his foot through the posts for a goal.
Ned kicks to Jack and Ned who take a joint mark, showing their keenness and keeping of eyes on the ball.
A block by Jack, who shares the ball to allow Tyler to take his chance, which he certainly does as another major score is added to the total, thanks to some help also from Zoe.
A contested pick up by Jack in defence, then a big kick upfield where Hugh scores a behind from a difficult angle.
Great team work from Drummoyne, sharing and moving the ball rapidly at every play. Strong in defence and aggressive in attack saw goals aplenty from everyone.
Tyler fashions a left foot kick in from a stoppage, Jeremy gathering the ball, sharing it quickly to Hugh who scores a goal kicking on an angle.
Q3
Ned gets another big kick away upfield to Charlotte, Charlotte has a good shot and scores a behind.
Ned in the forwards intercepts the ball and works his way around a player to convert another goal.
Jack kicks another goal off the outside of his boot.
Hugh gets a touch on a shot at goal by Easts to prevent a goal, followed by an accurate kick out by Ned.
Fletcher swerves and kicks a beautiful left footed kick upfield.
Jack scores yet another goal off the right side of his boot from the left boundary line.
Ned to Jack to Zoe in a string of hand passes.
Ned is awarded man of the match for his outstanding goal scoring. Well done all and thank you to coach Carolyn.
