Annual General Meeting

The Drummoyne Power Annual General Meeting will be held on Sunday 17 September in the Greg Davis Stand, immediately after presentation day (approximately 1pm).

All Drummoyne Power parent members (including Cannons with home club of Drummoyne Power) are invited and encouraged to attend.

Canada Bay Cannons Presentation Evening

Round 15 – Drummoyne U11 Local Derby – The mother of all contests

You could feel the excitement building at Five Dock Park, even before the preceding game had finished. In round 3 at Bat and Ball, Power White had a convincing 79-28 win over Power Black. The long awaited rematch was finally here, and with Black on equal 4th on the ladder, a crucial game against the competition leaders.

The first quarter was tough. White spent most of the quarter attacking relentlessly. But the Black defence just kept on defending. Ethan, Jonty, Alex H and Luke were tireless, looking out for each other, and keeping the goals clear. On a few occasions, the momentum shifted and the ball travelled the length of the field into an attacking position, but White kept coming. Black’s first line of defence upfield taking effect, Jasper tackling strongly and keeping the ball forward and Jarvyse laying some very effective tackles in the mids. This quarter was all about defence. The single point scored off the boot of Alex P.

The second quarter saw the Black midfield start to fire. Some great hand-ball and kick combinations between Damian and Luke, Mikhail and Denver, and the momentum was starting to shift. A scrambling run up the wing by Luke delivered the ball to Lucca within scoring range, and score he did. Hamish in the middle took a cracking mark, shortly followed by another. No one knew his game was in doubt with a hand injury, but he wasn’t going to miss this game! Marlowe was playing consistent sensible footy. Nick, Damian and Denver combined to come very close to scoring, but White was defending equally as strong. Toby took the next important mark with a booming kick between the big sticks. Late in the quarter White scored a well-deserved goal, and Denver and Alex P combined for a behind after the half time siren.

The intensity of the game didn’t let up. Actually it increased! Ethan took a heavy tackle but bounced back strongly.  Alex H made some great saves in our defending goal square as White continued the attack., hitting the post for a minor score. Toby was running through the middle, and Russell ever consistent in both attack and defense.  Jackson won a penalty in our own half connecting with Jonty who was also fouled – then kicked to Alex then Damian for another hard-to-come-by-point.  Alex H continuing the great pressure and clearance kicks between our posts. A point to each team this quarter.

Three Quarter Time Black 2-3-15 White 1-1-7

The final quarter… started with a two quick behinds to White. The toughness of Hamish and Cooper starts to shine as the intensity yet increases. Luke makes a few hard tackles to win the ball. Then gets well tackled in response. There’s no player on either team giving anything up here. Late in the final quarter Lucca scores a behind then Nick slots only the fourth goal of the game.

Full Time Black 3-4-22 White 1-3-9

This was the lowest scoring game in Division 2 this year – showing how great the defence was from both teams.

Power Black has a lot in common with the Sydney Swans. After losing their first 3 games, they have won 9 of the next 11. As the coaches said today – Wow, this is an extraordinary turnaround from the beginning of the season.

Thanks to Power White for a tough, spirited game. It is great to see both Power teams looking set for the finals. Thanks again to Nick and Marlowe for playing up for us.

 

Drummoyne Power vs. Concord Giants. Under 6s

Drummoyne Power U6 vs Concord Giants

Round 15, Saturday 5th August 2017

It was a beautiful clear morning approaching spring at Five Dock Oval, the sky was clear and the grass was only slightly wet. Perfect conditions for our little guys to get out and enjoy a game. Although we had no jerseys, that wasn’t going to stop us. The game started right on time. We had Caroline leading the boys and controlling the game.

1st Quarter

Well it was straight into it for Drummoyne, a winning tap-out and the ball was heading up to our forwards. A great mark was taken by Ned, who ran it up to close to the goal posts and goal! We’re away first points on the board.

We saw some great team work and the ball was being passed around freely. Our boys were on attack. Before we knew it Ned, scores again.

We saw Ben take a nice run up and pass over to Oscar M, who kicked right between the posts.

We temporarily lost possession and Concord was at our goals. But strong defence and a great block prevented any goals. Jack intercepted a pass and ran it up followed by a powerful boot. Picked up by Ben, and again passed to Oscar M. Kick another goal!

98 picked up the ball and a massive kick got it up to our forwards to get on the attack. We saw a few long runs from Jack followed by a strong kicks. Unfortunately we never got another goal in Concord’s defence was waking up.

Right before the end of quarter, Concord scored.

2nd Quarter

Jeremy was a star a get getting hold of the ball and running up. Drummoyne forwards were on the attack again. Unfortunately a pass got intercepted and it was up the other end of the field in no time followed by a Concord goal.

Jack got hold of the ball, passes to Hunter who runs it and big kick, goal!

Sebastian kicks it up to forward nicely. Before I know it another Drummoyne goal. So quick in-fact I never seen who kicked it.

Koji wins the tap-out, well done. The ball was being passed around and Concord picked up a dropped ball, and managed to get it up to goal and score.

Drummoyne score again in no time, again I missed the kicker and the lead up. (Sorry.)

Concord have possession and making ground on us, but brilliant defence from our boys didn’t let it through, particularly strong block put in by Jack.

Isaac took the tap-out Drummoyne are in control again, the ball is passed to 98 who kicks another goal.

Quarter 3

Started with a good run and kick to forwards from Oscar M. No goal happened this time, the ball was back with Ned whom booted it from mid-field to our forwards again. There was a bit of wrestling and shoving trying to get the ball off the ground. Oscar M passes to Isaac, great kick, 1 pointer scored.

Before you know it Isaac has the ball again and kicks a perfect 6 pointer this time.

Concord are back in the game and the ball is up at our goals, and unfortunately 2 got through. But we didn’t make it easy for them. There was some excellent defence. Ben was getting in the middle of pack and coming out with the ball regularly. However our guys dropped a few passes.

Ned won the tap-out and passes to Koji who puts in a massive kick. Goal ! Straight away backed up by Jack putting a 6 pointer in too.

The game is getting tighter and Concord are fighting back. Ned passes to Isaac, kick, but blocked, he caught it back and kicked again. Goal !

End of Game

We’re not supposed to keep score, but I think it is fair to say Drummoyne won this game.

Great game to watch and truly is amazing the progress the boys have made during the season. I think ball skills have improved a lot, the boys are sticking to their assigned positions and most impressive team work is happening. Well done, boys.

We thank our opposition for a good game, huddle around for the team song and wait to see who wins the award this week. BEN !! Congratulations

Under 13 Div 2 Canada Bay Cannons v Forest Lions

UNDER 13s CANADA BAY CANNONS v FOREST LIONS

Round 15, 6 August

We arrived to the beat of the Bee Gees blaring over the PA and drifting on the wind across the Lionel Watts dust bowl.

And, come the last quarter, the Cannons were Stayin’ Alive, Jive Talkin’ and they could even have been Dancin’.

The last term was about the best quarter of footy the kids have played all year. The scoreboard might not have obliged, but the Cannons certainly dominated a much bigger team placed much higher on the ladder with run and endeavour and their trademark never-say-die attitude.

Trailing by a fair bit at three quarter time, Tony set them a challenge for the final term – to play on at all costs, use their pace and take the game on. If not for a few cruel bounces and long Lions’ arms on the goal line, they could have had their just reward with three or four goals and even a sniff of victory.

But the reward came in just knowing they can play that brand of footy with beautiful results.

They ran the ball the length of the field on several occasions, dancin’ around their bigger opponents. Jonno started one passage of play deep in defence when he quickly played on and the ball swept down the wing via hand and foot through Finlay, Ben C, Liam and Blake into the goal square where one of those cruel bounces denied us the goal of the year.

While the last quarter was inspiring, the first was almost as good, but this time the scoreboard reflected our dominance.

Nic started the game at his usual pace and provided plenty of drive in the middle, Jack was running the ball off the half back flank, Blake was creative on his wing and Jonno, Liam and Hugh combined brilliantly in the forward line.

Jonno’s perfectly weighted kick over the back of the pack for Hugh to mark in the square set up an easy goal and also showed skills and maturity beyond a kid in his first year of footy.

But the play of the day probably came from a defensive effort from Brayden.

As a Lion set off down the wing, Brayden kept chasing and chasing and chasing, pressuring him as he took 12 bounces into the forward line. Brayden’s pressure from behind allowed Ben C to read the situation and time his front on attack perfectly to throw the Forest kid off balance and spray his kick wide. What looked like a certain goal as he streamed forward was foiled by relentless pressure from Brayden and clever defensive work by Ben.

And it enabled us to go into quarter time seven points up.

The Lions dominated the next two quarters, however, and took a hefty lead into the last break.

Even as Forest were hitting the scoreboard in those middle quarters, the Cannons kept working hard and putting in.

Ben M and Paddy again ran on the ball all day on a big, hard and dusty ground and were at every contest, even deep into the final quarter. Ben’s clever tap work gave us plenty of the ball and set up the first goal, while Paddy’s run and gutsy mark ended up with Joey kicking a clever goal in the third quarter.

Will was competitive as always, mopping up and tackling and spoiling our way out of trouble, Archie kept tackling and regularly rebounded out of defence with clearing kicks, while Sam was in and under at the contest.

Blake was taking marks all day on one wing, wheeling around on to his left foot to deliver precision passes to his forwards, while on the other side of the field, Finlay showed off some lovely ball skills and racked up effective possessions.

Liam’s use of his left foot is a continued highlight, while Nic’s crunching shepherd in the second quarter showed he’s as tough as he is skilled.

The overall effort, but that last quarter especially, should give us a lot of momentum and belief going into the final game of the year on Sunday. If we play on quickly, move the ball with pace and keep up those disciplined defensive efforts, we can certainly finish the season on a high.

Round 14 – Drummoyne Power Black versus Newtown Swans Red

As the lure of the finals looms the boys of Black travelled across town to meet a Newtown Swans team that had, to this point, struggled throughout the season.

Under a sparkling, clear blue sky the promise of a fast pitch and an undermanned opposition brought expectation of the percentage-boosting victory for the Power. A big win would all but guarantee a finals spot that looked unlikely after an 0-4 season start and the sounds of September dreaming rung in the air.

As of the first bounce, a strong effort by the Swans reminded all and sundry that expectation can be the mother of disappointment. The Swans pressure, coupled with a lack of passing continuity from the Power delivered a goal-free first term, despite the strong efforts of Lucca and Mikhail up front.

Following a review at the first break the Power came out strongly in the second quarter. Soon after the restart Luke found the big sticks and a Denver pick up and disposal led to a further goal soon after. Mikhail and Cooper also got in on the action and a dominating  half-time lead created the promise of the win the Black was seeking.

As if on cue, the lessons of underestimating an opposition were rewritten again as the Swans dominated the third quarter. Damian did a great job at the back but with Alex ‘you’re not getting past me’ Hewitt further up the field the Swans kept on coming and won the championship quarter 21-0.

After a final huddle that no outsiders dared enter, the Power walked out looking a little dishevelled, with Damian being the clear exception. Perhaps it was the idea of having to sit next to coach on the red-light drive home – and it did work.

Great work from Toby in the ruck along with on-ball pressure from Russell got the Sherrin moving in the right direction again and the forwards had shot after shot on goal as the clock wound down.

Unfortunately the desire the kick with the side of the boot rather than with the laces (soccer is a scourge on the game) meant that it rained behinds, not goals. Ethan and Denver both had multiple shots before Ethan did find the middle and Luke continued to perform strongly as the Power took control and a very comfortable win.

ROUND 13 – DRUMMOYNE U11 BLACK VS WESTERN SUBURBS BLACK

The last game for U11s as Drummoyne Power at Drummoyne Oval. A sentimental round for the boys after so many years at this great oval. Next year, the kids will graduate to the Canada Bay Cannons. While they’ll still have Drummoyne Oval as their home oval, they won’t be wearing the teal and black.

The day was perfect for the sendoff, and perfect for a match that the boys knew was going to be a hard fight.

First quarter started as expected, both teams came out strong relishing the opportunity to play some strong football.

Jarvyse started with a great mark in defence firing it off to Russell and Toby in the centres. Wests were on the attack and pushing hard to dent the scoreboard.

Mikhail and Jackson turned the ball around and moved forward to the preferred end of play resulting in a goal for Luke who took the mark in front.

Ethan was strong in this quarter with a mark and feed to Denver. Toby was brilliant in the ruck and pushed hard against Wests. Luka was also so strong in defence.

Wests were tough and the boys had to maintain their composure which they did and in the end another goal went to Mikhail.

Second quarter was a great one for Drummoyne. Denver and Alex displayed great team work while Wests pushed forward to the Southern End of the ground.

Russell showed those super fast legs and stayed strong in defence getting the ball back down the right end. There was magnificent ca hase with Samuel and Cooper on the attack – resulting in a goal to Samuel.

Luka got the tap out passing to Luke who executed a huge kick to the goal circle helping Ethan get it right between the middle sticks. Brilliant play.

Another goal to Ethan and Samuel. Alex was impenetrable on the backline taking a huge mark.

Jacob played a fabulous role in this quarter – he was brutal on the attack.

Third Quarter – After a half time pump up from Anthony about staying strong but also about not reacting and staying true to the Drummoyne spirit of fair play – the boys came out firing once again.

Mikhail was having the game of the season on the line – stopping Wests from scoring a number of times right on the goal line.

Damien also saved a few and was throwing himself around the field. Russell was a huge asset in the centres driving the ball to the other end with the help of Luka and Ethan.

Great pressure from Jarvyse in the tackle. Wests were pushing hard but the backs stayed strong. Alex H was key in the backline using his height to block any surgence forward.
Alex P. was also on fire this quarter attacking with all his might. Luke made a tackle that showed his dominance in the game. Hamish took a great grab and delivered the ball to Sam in the goal square which ended in a goal.

Denver also played hard this quarter and he was rewarded with a goal.

Fourth Quarter – The final chance for Drummoyne to show Wests what true footy is about and they delivered. The boys displayed the best team work, supporting each other and encouraging each other constantly.

Hamish took a huge mark with an equally huge kick back down the right end of the field. Jackson and Alex H. pushed hard in defence while Luke basically covered the field determined to seal the deal as Wests got closer on the screen board.

Ethan gave the boys some breathing space with a goal. Jasper helping out in the goal circle making sure Wests were not going to get their hands on the ball. Toby and Russell fought with Wests over the ball up and managed to get it back down our goal end. Cooper backed himself after taking a mark – he played on and it payed off – he scored. The boys had done it. End score 61 – to Wests 44.

The whole team played amazingly well and stayed true to themselves with an honest, well fought game. They deserved the win!

Huge thanks to Samuel, Sam, Nick and Tiger for playing up from U 10s – they displayed true talent and are an asset to Drummoyne Power.

The boys should all be very very proud! On to the finals!

Round 11 – Drummoyne U11 Black vs Glebe Greyounds

Oh where art thou Daceyville?

The families of Under 11 Black have traversed all continents of the globe, trekked and travelled countries, explored cities and discovered regions that are both populated and remote. None, however, have ever been to Daceyville. Daceyville, the home of Australia’s first planned cul-de-sac, is only seven kilometres from Sydney’s CBD, in the middle of everything yet not near anywhere.  It seemed a long way to travel for a local derby against our old rivals, the Glebe Greyhounds.

The travel to Daceyville was well worth it though as our boys shifted their game play up a gear. The free flowing, open play allowed the Power to dominate early. Brilliant open runs from Damien, Lucca, Jarvyse put the Greyhounds under immediate pressure. The defence pack of Hamish, Ethan, Russell, Alex P, Mikhail and Jasper was made of solid rock and impenetrable.

Thank you to our special guest player Yoshi who stepped up to play again after finishing up from the U10s. Yoshi’s efforts ensured a smooth flow of play and absolutely no gaps in the outfield.

The crisp air cracked with the ‘boom-boom-boom’ of the ball off the boots of Cooper, Luc, Ethan and Jarvyse making it rain on a fine sunny day. Alex P, Russell, Lucca all popped the ball between the posts. Alex H’s brilliant contribution via the rucks had the ball flying Power’s way and when he applied his rugby style defence skills the opposition did not stand a chance.

Full credit to the Greyhounds, they did not give up. They dug deep and when it looked like they might score, Damian was right there on the line to thwart the attempt. Power’s brilliant defence never let its guard down.

“Mercy” was called but not by the Greyhounds! It was by our boys in the backs who had so little to do.  Full props to Ethan who played for Greyhounds in the last quarter and was immediately on the receiving end of the Power’s crushing defence. You did both teams proud Ethan, thank you.

Drummoyne Power Under 6: Round 14

Drummoyne Power Under 6 v Western Suburbs Magpies

Round 14

Picken Oval was the destination where the Drummoyne Power faced the impressive Wests footy team. Each week the quality of footy and skill on display has improved and the team are playing some great footy.

Lead by the wrecking ball Oscar H and supported by Archie J, Drummoyne Power dominated the first Quarter. Archie was taking some impressive marks and feeding the ball off to Oscar H who weaved and stepped his way through for some quality play and a number of goals. Oscar F won a tip off and and Jack scooped the ball up and with one of his trademark long kicks down field found Oscar who finished off a great team play with a goal. Koji H, Lucas S, Issac O, Jeremy L, Archie R and Sebastian G were playing their part and contributed to an entertaining quarter of footy.

Isaac O and James D held the defence together and managed to limit the damage that could of been done by a Wests team who was just warming up.

Second quarter saw the Wests team trying to turn the tide and force the Drummoyne Power into unforced errors. Then came Archie J who through his body around on a number of occasions to let Wests know who is BOSS. Isaac O and Archie R dominated the tip offs and Lucas S, Oscar H and Jeremy L linked well to keep the ball moving from end to end. Jack C was super busy from mid field creating a lot of scoring opportunities. Oscar F was strong in defence and forced a number of ball ups. Archie J and Jeremy L scored two of the goals of season both from long range! The goals didn’t flow as much as previous quarter due to the relentless defence and energy from the little girl in the Wests side.

The third quarter Drummoyne Power took off from where they finished in the first and dominated play from the tip off. Oscar H and Lucas held strong in the mid field and Sebastian G showed plenty of energy and involvement to create two goal opportunities for Oscar H who made no mistake in front of goal. Oscar F cleared the ball with long accurate kicks out of the defensive end! Archie J was involved in another one for the highlight reel when he took a screamer of a catch and then followed up with an accurate long range kick to Jack C. Play of the quarter was an end to end play which involved Oscar F clearing kick to Isaac O who linked with Koji H, back to Isaac O who finished with a tremendous goal.
